Revised June 2004 and June 2008
- Every Chair/Director is responsible for the accurate, timely and cost-effective management of his/her unit's budget and resources, in accordance with Federal and State regulations and University policies and procedures.
- All budgets must be in balance at the end of the fiscal year.
- Budget reports are due to the Dean's Office four times annually—approximately: July/August, December, May and (final report) June/July.
- The Chairs/Directors have considerable autonomy in targeting and manipulating their unit's funds. However, any budgetary decision concerning faculty salaries, non-minor facilities (see the Facilities Protocol), or academic programs must have the prior approval of the Dean.
- Chairs/Directors should work closely with their Budget Officer. The Budget Officers in turn should closely coordinate their efforts with the College's Budget Officer—including regular attendance at the College Budget Officers Group that is convened and chaired by the CMNS Budget Officer.
- The unit's Budget Officers are responsible for the entry of ARS appointment information, including new appointments and terminations.
