Corporate Scholars Program

Mission

The CMNS Corporate Scholars Program (CSP) provides highly qualified CMNS students with a combination of scholarships with summer internships related to their fields of study, while offering employers a cost-effective means of recruiting from a pool of talented, pre-screened students to fill available positions. This program is open to CMNS undergraduate students only.

Corporate Scholars distinguish themselves through their academic achievement and their professional drive and aspirations. Students who are approved by the Dean’s office and selected for employment participate in some of the best and most exclusive internship opportunities offered each summer. In addition to professional guidance by a company mentor, these positions expose students to unique technology; require active participation in real projects and products and fully envelope students into the workplace environment.

Corporate Scholar positions are truly professional in nature, providing employers with result ending achievements and enhancing a student’s overall educational experience. Preparation for graduation is more than successful completion of required courses, but successful application of knowledge to a professional field and the professionalism required in the workplace. Those who seek the best are those who seek Corporate Scholars.

CSP is designed to assist employers in conducting targeted, efficient recruitment for summer internship opportunities while supporting the student intern through a merit-based scholarship. CSP consists of the following components:

  • A pre-screening process based on applications to the program.
  • The awarding of $2,000 merit-based scholarship with each internship opportunity.
  • A private Dean’s Reception for students, employers and invited CMNS faculty and staff.
  • An assigned mentor for each intern provided by the employer.
  • A series of site visits by Program Director during the summer internships.
  • A structure in which the internships will initially be completed during the summer semester, traditionally 10-12 weeks between June-August (40 hour weeks).

Corporate Partners supporting the Corporate Scholars Program receive direct access to an applicant pool of pre-screened students with appropriate background and skills, priority positioning for recruitment, private information sessions, special invitations to College and University events, increased visibility to student and faculty populations, enrollment in the philanthropic societies of both the CMNS and University of Maryland.

Selected students will have an opportunity to receive a merit-based scholarship along with a paid summer internship related to their field of study, cultivate a relationship with an assigned mentor, develop professional skills, build a substantial resume and matriculate into full time employment.
