The Jeffrey and Lily Chen Undergraduate Scholarship Application - 2012

The College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences is proud to announce that it is seeking candidates for the Jeffrey & Lily Chen Undergraduate Scholarship at the University of Maryland at College Park. Under the patronage of Drs. Jeffrey and Lily Chen, scholarships will be awarded to outstanding undergraduates enrolled full time in one of the fields of Astronomy, Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, Computer Science, Geology, Physical Sciences or Physics. The award may be renewable for up to three additional years, provided that the student continues to meet the eligibility requirements below.

Selection/Renewal Criteria

  • Must maintain a college GPA of at least 3.20 and a minimum enrollment of 12 credits per semester at the University of Maryland, College Park campus.
  • Must be at Sophomore Status (30 credits) by Fall.
  • Must make continuous progress towards degree. This normally means completion of two technical courses in the major each term.
  • Must remain within ONE of the majors in the College (Astronomy, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Geology, Physical Sciences or Physics ).
  • Must include two letters of recommendation when applying; one of which must be from a math or science faculty member.

Special consideration will be given to: Children of employees of the General Sciences Corporation; NASA Goddard Space Flight Center; and National Weather Service of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Consideration will also be given to students from Taiwan, Republic of China.


The annual application deadline is in May; the 2012 deadline has now passed.
